The carp belongs to the cyprinidae family. It has a long body and slightly flat sides. It is about 1m in body length. The body of the carp is bluish yellow and the inferior lobe of tail fin is red. The mouth is opened under the rhynchodaenm. There are 2 pairs of barbell, as well as solid spines on the dorsal fin and the anal fin. Also, there are sawteeth at the posterior edge of the last solid spine. Carps inhabit at the bottom of water and are omnivorous. They are bred in fresh water in various regions in China, except for the western plateau, and are a kind of important cultured species. China has been raising carps for more than 2400 years and the carp is now bred all over the world.
